About the project

Pilgrimage Route of St. Mary (“Light from the East”) is a flagship project of Interreg V-A Poland-Slovakia under Priority Axis 1: Protection and development of the natural and cultural heritage of the cross-border area.

The main objective of the project:

Spiritual and Christian traditions are the conditions for adventure tourism. The potential of the PL-SK border is historically and geographically predisposed to building and developing one of the forms of pilgrim tourism. The main objective of the project is to complete the tourist infrastructure and offer a comprehensive new product of tourism, inspired by the pilgrimage route of Santiago de Compostela and highlighting all the cultural, natural, historical, social and spiritual values of the Slavic nation related to the message and Marian tradition.

Main outputs of the project:

Creation of a new tourist product – Pilgrimage route of St. Mary (creation of a guide, virtual pilgrimage route, design manual, branding and identity of pilgrimage, database for pilgrims, virtual panoramas, 3D mapping, creation of project song, production of pilgrimage passes and etc.)

Establishment of an inter-sectoral coordination group, consisting of experts on pilgrim tourism and Marian cult and the provision of a feasibility study whose outputs will contribute to the development of investments and infrastructure, and thus contributes to the growth of tourism on the Polish-Slovak borderland in the long-term.

Completion of the necessary small infrastructure and reconstruction or modernization of objects on the Polish and Slovak side, which will be on the pilgrimage route (Levoča, Gaboltov, Ľutina, Litmanová, Krosno, Stara Wies, Kalwaria Paclawska, Debowiec)

Spreading the idea of the St. Mary´s pilgrimage route through marketing activities (online, offline, the media) and Evangelistic journey of pilgrims, which will be the first test of volunteers; and other soft activities (workshops, conferences, forums, symposiums, concerts, the participation in fairs and exhibitions , creating an external gallery, and etc.)
